Walkington 10k

So the Walkington 10k came round again as is tradition the race is held on a Friday night, for me this is one of my favourite races in the calendar & I always look forward to it, also this was my first ever race back in 2012 so it holds a special place in my heart. Beverley AC do a cracking job with this race, it’s always well supported, plenty of marshals on route helping out & a cracking t-shirt at the end.

A warm muggy night with little breeze greeted us making race conditions quite testing, lots of people say this race is too hilly but I find there are plenty of downhill bits to claw them valuable seconds back, I’d been giving my friends at work my tactics during the week hopefully it worked for them – fast first mile, dig in second mile, fly in to Little Weighton for the third & fourth then hold on for a bumpy ride

First back was our very own Mike Hargreaves in a cracking time of 33.41, making it back to back victories in this race – well done Mike, second home was Kingston’s Gregan Clarkson followed by Brid’s Phil Taylor.

In the ladies race Beverley’s Becky Briggs was first home continuing her recent cracking form, she is a real star for the future, second back was Sian Morgan of Driffield followed City of Hull’s Niki Whitaker.

Second back for EHH was Darren White & third was Steve Taylor, both Darren & Steve have been running great over the last few months keep up the good work chaps, lots of other great performances by EHH members who did great in their respective categories.

Afterwards a few of us went to the Barrel for a well earned drink, this is becoming the norm after races & our drinks expert / ringleader Keith Conkerton does a great job.

From a personal point of view I was really pleased with my time of 41.04 as I’ve been struggling with various back / leg niggles over the last few weeks so was nice to have some turnover in the legs again, I love been part of EHH the support, friendship & camaraderie is brilliant #ehhmassive
