Withernsea 5 Mile Sunday 5th July 2015
A great day today out on the coast at Withernsea at the five miler organised by Withernsea Harriers. The weather was cooler than of late with a refreshing breeze, so good conditions for running. A well organised event with a nice route on closed roads and pavements, with excellent marshalls.
With five different running clubs in the first five places there was a good race out at the front. Carl Ryde, Doncaster Athletic Club the eventual winner in 26:21, followed by COH’s Gregan Clarkson and Phill Taylor of BRR.
First lady was Becky Briggs of Beverley Athletic Club in 31:53, our own Helen Horrobin and Jane Morley of Wold veterans completing the podium.
A strong EHH contingent were led home by Mike Peterson in 32:48. Both Linda Huart and Ann Allen picked up their respective age category prizes.
As is becoming the recent norm, a good number of members cycled to the event so they could enjoy a bevy or three on the way home, doubt if it will take you long to identify the ringleader of this new phenomenon.
From a personal point of view, not a good race, suffered in the middle sector before giving myself a kicking and finishing quite strongly. Missed the free fish and chips (too long a queue) and sought out one of my favourite alternatives, in Hornsea!
