Skegness 10k
Sunday 15th November saw the second running of Skegness Coasters 10k based at Southview Holiday Park.
This year the entry limit was upped to 350 and chip timing used for the first time. The route is a nice flat PB potential course, which starts and finishes outside the leisure centre. Following a small loop around the caravan park the course ventures out onto quiet country roads before looping back into the caravan park for the last kilometre. The whole route is well marshalled and features lots of friendly support throughout.
Conditions this year were far from ideal with a 25mph south westerly wind blowing and a short rain shower at the start of the race, nevertheless 318 runners completed the race. The winner was Ben Evison of Skegness in 34.37, Sheila and myself were the sole East Hull Harriers taking place although Sara Morrow City of Hull and 5 runners from White City also took part.
Despite the strong wind which was mainly cross or head I ran my second fastest 10k of the year in 44.18 finishing in 40th position and Sheila finished in 66.36 and 272nd. The ‘reward’ for running the event was a fantastic medal featuring the Jolly Sailor character.
A well organised event with prompt results, a great medal, fantastic support and PB potential course makes it one for the calendar next year. A great alternative to the Leeds Abbey Dash, perhaps a few more Harriers will venture to Skegness next year.
