Summer League Skirlaugh 8 Mile

Here we are again folks with the results for the penultimate race of the season.

Another night with a few spots of rain but given the conditions, most found it a welcome relief from the clammy heat of the evening. There’s always an exception of course, with one PT bemoaning the fact that the rain was obscuring his vision…..if only he’d used Specsaver’s contact lens service!

So on to the race; another win for our own Mike Hargreaves in 44:06 followed home by Gregan Clarkson (KuHAC) in 45:35 and Andy Deyes (EHH) in 45:46.

Can Mike make it a clean sweep next time out? I’m not sure if that has ever been done before, perhaps Peter D can enlighten us?

First home for the ladies was Carla Stansfield (CoH) in 51:49 with Carole Fee and Kirsty Wilson (EHH) in 55:35 and 56:19 respectively.

The handicap event podium was as follows:

  • Andy Baker (BRR)         -3:38 (surely a steward’s enquiry into that handicap?)
  • Jane Longley (WH)       -2:36
  • Paul Nippress (EHH)   -2:07

The Handicap League top two remain  the same with some changes in the top five:

John Pawson still leads with 411 points with Venika Moverley closing the gap to just 30 points on 381.

New entrants this week into the top five are Jeffrey Copping and Karen Scott with 369 and 366 points respectively.  Alan Smith drops a place to fifth with 360 points.

So all to play for and though it may seem like an almost unassailable lead John can be caught.

I enjoyed what will be my last event this year as I’m away for the final race and presentations.  I therefore made a toast to you all in the pub just before the race with a fine pint of well kept Wainwright’s Golden Ale.

I’m not sure who will be filling the breech but I’m sure they’ll do a sterling job, so that just leaves me to wish you all good luck next time, perhaps I may catch running once again and see you on the start line somewhere.  I use the term ‘start line’ quite loosely as I’ll be several metres behind…………..

As ever, message, email, facebook comment me if you spot any errors……….

Mike
