Summer League Sproatley 6 Mile

It only seems like it was a fortnight ago that I was posting the last set of results, and here we are again!

A pleasant evening’s racing ensued, well at least I think it was, I was in a race of my own, in the pub, drinking beer and working on the results……………..so we know where the blame will lie if there are any errors……

Turns out all the errors were not my fault and I’ll keep repeating that phrase till you all believe me……

Note changes in Blue text!

Mike Hargreaves (EHH) was once again first across the line in 31:40 followed by Gregan Clarkson (KuHAC 32:33) and Lewis Suddaby (EHH 34:32).

Ladies event was won by Kerry Pearson Rotherham Harriers in 37:25 with our own Carole Fee and Kirsty Wilson following in 40:45 and 41:47 respectively

Both team prizes once again retained by East Hull Harriers.

First three in the handicap were Graeme Smith, Stephen Taylor, Dave Anderson all EHH.

I must credit Dave Gowans with some assistance with the results this time around.  It is really useful to have photographic evidence to identify the suspicious character running in a number from a previous event not connected to the current series.  Rumour has it he had no clean vests left and this one was at the bottom of the wash basket, having last been aired at the Hedon four mile race last July………we won’t name names shall we Mark Bissell?

It was also useful in providing evidence that Stephen Eblett (BRR) did indeed finish in 150th place and not Mike Abbotts of Durham City!

The early league leaders in the handicap are:

Samantha Bollon BRR 184; Alan (lightning strikes twice) Smith EHH 176; Karen Scott CoH 164

As ever, if you spot any mistakes (I refer you to the second para) let me know and I’ll eventually get round to rectifying them, probably at the weekend. Never, ever tell me again…….they’re always perfect………

Next race results may be somewhat delayed, either in part or totally. I’m away to Aus for a couple of weeks so will miss the East Park bash, Beth Dearing will probably publish the basic results, you may have to await my return for the rest.

Happy Running!

Mike

Summer League! New Ellerby 5 Mile 16th April 2019

Wow!  Seems like only yesterday that I was finishing the results of last year’s Summer League and here we are again already!

Last night’s race took place in typical pre-Easter conditions, overcast with a breeze and quite chilly.  Not the weather for standing around marshalling for ages so I suppose we should be grateful it was just five miles and not ten.

Conditions seemed good for running with some great performances through the field.

The men’s race was won by Mike Hargreaves (EHH), 44 seconds ahead of Phill Taylor (BRR) with Gregan Clarkson (CoH) a further seven seconds behind, (26:13, 26:47, 27:04)

In the lady’s event it was a ‘red’ wash with Katie Seddon ‘smashing it out of the park’ in 33:13 followed by Carole Fee, 33:39 and Kirsty Wilson, 34:01.  That also sorted the female team prize!

Male team prize also went to the Harriers men with Lewis Suddaby and Mark Bissell also counting.

Other notable runs included the rapidly improving Oliver Burnett finishing 15th in 29:29; and I also noted Sheila Maddison putting in another great run (following an excellent result at Burton Pidsea on Sunday) finishing last night in 45:40.

The handicap winners last night were: Florence Henderson, unattached, (100 points),  Samantha Bollon, Bridlington Road Runners (99) and Peter Taylor, City of Hull (98).

I hope you noted the new points structure of the handicap league, it follows the same principles as previous year’s but now works down from 100 to ten points.

Similarly, the handicapper is sure to have noted the winning performances and will be taking them into account when calculating them for the next and subsequent events!

Here are the relevant downloads:

So it just remains to say, good luck for the series and if you do nothing else, enjoy the racing!

Cheers,
Mike

The Three Days of Harriers Christmas

No, this is not an excuse to burst into song but my take on the festive fun organised by your favourite running club.

This year I wasn’t sure of my Christmas Day availability until the day before, so a 7 mile road/railway track run was in order on the beautiful, sunny spring-like day which was Christmas Eve. A few hours later, a quick text to Nippy and it was ‘game on’ for the Christmas Day cross-country from the club.

Chevin Chase 2018

Having had my nerve root block back in December 2017, 2018 started great with a good training month in January in preparation for the early season races. I managed to score PB’s at Ferriby 10, Dewsbury 10k & Barcelona half marathon, the good training continued up to the East Hull 20 at which I did 2:17.55 something that I’m incredibly proud of having ran most of the race on my own & also managed to produce some of most consistent mile splits ever. Shortly after the 20 things starting unravelling slightly with a bit of leg pain creeping in, after cutting short a planned long run I was concerned I wouldn’t be able to make London mara. Some shorter training runs followed just to keep my legs ticking over with the leg pain coming & going. Anyway I made the start line at London & pulled a 3:20 out the bag again something I’m proud of & so grateful to the club for the place.

November 17th – Winter league handicap race

On November 17th I ran in my first ever handicap winter league race. I’ve been a member of EHH since July but have never been to any club training/pack runs and have only ever been to one hill session and one speed session (both in the weeks leading up to the race) so I didn’t really know that many people. Id met a few at other races I’ve been to with my husband Martin Hardey (it was his idea to sign me up for the winter league).
