Summer League Skirlaugh 8 mile Tuesday 10th July 2018

With a field of 137 finishers the longest, penultimate event of the summer league is behind us.

Steve Bateson’s monopoly of the winner’s podium is finally broken by Mike Hargreaves albeit, in Steve’s absence.

Some great times by many runner’s by all accounts.  Mike was followed home by Rob Weekes (EHH) and Chris Horton from Badger’s running club in the Tamworth area.

Is that an indication of the fame of this beloved running club of ours and the fantastic Summer League organised by Pete Dearing for the club? I think so!

The ladies event was won by CoH’s Carla Stansfield by a clear six minutes from our own Carole Fee with Emily Wix (EHH) on her heels.

Both team prizes won by the red massive.

The handicap event has some additional prizes this time around as there were two age category prizes without any contestants, and on top of that two of the handicap prizes had to be ‘shuffled’ down as the winners had already recieved race or vet prizes.

Total of seven handicap prizes as follows: 1st Wayne Martindale, followed by Stephen Braddock, Shaun Bonnar, Steve Taylor, Nigel Pennington, Lucas Meagor and Andy Baker.

The league table after seven of the eight events is as follows:

1 59 Alexia Morgan Hornsea Harriers 230
2 73 Verona Petty Bridlington Road Runners 218
3 143 Luke Bramley East Hull Harriers & AC 214
4 217 Joe Finer Unattached 203
5 204 Stephen Braddock Hornsea Harriers 187

If my maths is correct (United States of America nationals please note correct spelling of “math”!) only the top seven remain in contention for the first prize, with Lee Campbell and Vicky Webster only having an outside chance of winning (i.e. the top five don’t turn up!)

All to play for unlike England whose fantstic run ended last night.

So to close these ramblings, well run everyone and well played England!

Summer League Coniston 10k 26th June 2018

Here we are again folks another Summer League race done and dusted and the results appended below for your perusal.

First the sexy bits: Spreadsheet VLOOKUPs all functioning correctly, newly automated calculation of race time against handicap working after a minor glitch (thanks Kris Hopkins) hence the new format on the results.

The handicap league continues to hot up. Alexia Morgan (230) and Joe Finer (203) taking 51 and 24 point lead from the chasing pack with three others in the 170’s.  Still all to play for as next time around, contestants start to lose their lowest score as only six count from the eight races……….looks like I may have to do some creative accounting to improve on my measly ten points and worry the leaders!

The handicap this time around was won by Joe Finer, followed by Adam Callan, Helen Duncan, Shaun Bonnar and Alexia Morgan. Well ran guys.

The race itself was a fairly predictable outing for Steve Bateson and Mike Hargreaves, Steve has won all races so far and Mike second in all but the first when he was recovering from completing the London Marathon.  Looks like they’ll need to take a holiday if anyone else is going to get a look in! Great running gentlemen.

Becky Briggs stormed home in the ladies event, eigth place overall in 36:16 second home was our own Kirsty Wilson (43:44) and Carole Fee just 10 second surther back.

Team prizes both went to East Hull Harriers.

As ever, if you notice any errors let me know and I’ll endeavour to correct them as soon as I can.

Cheers,
Mike

Summer League Sproatley Seven Mile

What a difference a fortnight and a fully functional set of Excel VLOOKUPs makes!

Getting the donkey work done in the Constable Arms last night then finishing them off this evening made a big difference, I even fitted in a guitar practice session.

So the results look as if they were fairly predicatable given the field on the night. Our own Steve Bateson leading home Mike Hargeaves and Phill Taylor.  City of Hull’s Carla Stansfield came in first in the ladies event followed home by Kirsty Wilson and Carol Fee.  Both team prizes going to the red massive.

The handicap race was won by Anthea Eskrett from Alexia Morgan and Vicky Godfrey.

Alexia Morgan’s 59 points from last nights race has pushed her up into first place on 174 followed by Vicky Webster and Sean Higgins on 167 and 165 points respectively.

Still all to play for with three events left, but, remember that only six of the eight events count for the league, so there is still chance for plenty of contestants to make a challenge for the prizes.

As ever, I just do the results, handicaps are ‘nowt to do wi me’ (in a broad Yorkshire accent), so for your reading pleasure, here they are:

Spot any errors, drop me a line, message or whatever

Mike

Mr D has spotted an error so I’m afraid Vicky Godfey is not allowed to win two prizes (unless one were a team prize) so her handicap prize has gone to Simon Porter of Bridlington Road Runners.

Summer League Leven 10k Results

STOP PRESS STOP PRESS:

Just uploaded some amended handicap results and the handicap table after our illustrious race director pointed out that there were four athletes omitted from the previous results……well they’re not now!

Considering I CBA to start the results by the time I’d eaten and had a shower last night I set to when I returned home from work today.  I’m still having problems with my excel spreadsheet ‘VLOOKUPS’ as well!  I realise that most of you don’t know what the %$£&**^% hell they are, it also appears that I don’t either because I can’t mend them…….anyone who knows better is welcome to come round to mine and explain them, again……

Anyway, enough of my troubles, the results are in and there are some great runs from an awful lot of people.  Mark Gadie managed to smash his PB with a first sub 40 by some way; well done Mark.  I managed to get myself onto the handicap league table by getting round the course, my first completed race since the winter league. Steve Bateson continues to excel at the front pushed hard by Mike Hargreaves and several others at the pointy end of the race.

The handicap league is hotting up with Vicky Webster and Sean Higgins vying for the lead at the halfway point.  No lowest score deductions appearing at the moment, they may have a bearing later in the league, still all to run for!

Last night’s handicaps, set by our own Peter Dearing, seem to be some of the best yet, good work Pete, but if you could take the time to reflect on the poor job you actually did on mine I’d appreciate it and I’ll look forward to an improvement next time (joke! I could always massage mine if I wanted to.  You know what they say a good ‘scorer’ beats a good player every time)?

Anyway enough of my prattling, enjoy:

As always, if you spot any errors let me know and I’ll correct them as soon as I can; except handicaps……..nothing to do with me!

Cheers, Mike
