Summer League Skirlaugh 8 Mile

Here we are again folks with the results for the penultimate race of the season.

Another night with a few spots of rain but given the conditions, most found it a welcome relief from the clammy heat of the evening. There’s always an exception of course, with one PT bemoaning the fact that the rain was obscuring his vision…..if only he’d used Specsaver’s contact lens service!

Summer League Coniston 10k

UPDATE Thursday 27th

After being advised of some errors in the handicap calculation I have investigated and found that the runners in the last sixteen places were wrong.  The formulae calculating the difference from actual to handicap time were corrupted and not looking in the correct place.

No real change to the prizes, just that it is now joint winners with £17:50 each!

Many of you may find their points for race six have changed very slightly, biggest losers were John Pawson and Jeffery Copping, my apologies gentlemen.

The league table has changed slightly with John Pawson’s total; dropping eleven points down to 400.  Alan Smith and Kirsty both move up one place into fourth and fifth respectively.

This does make the closing two races a little more interesting But John still has a massive 55 point lead over joint second placed Venika Moverley and Oliver Burnett.

Once again apologies………if any excel whizz kids out there want a job for next summer………..let me know!

Another evening of cool running weather, but at least it didn’t throw it down.  We may have to consider renaming this year’s league, I’m open to suggestions on a postcard but I’d favour ‘The Terribly Unseasonal East Hull Harriers Summer League 2019’.  But then again what do I know?

Well, I know the following:

Becky Briggs turned up to win the lady’s event by a country mile from Carla Stansfield (both City of Hull) and our own Kirsty Wilson in – 35:33; 39:28 and 42:34 respectively.

The men’s event was once again won by Mike Hargreaves (EHH) 32:41, from Andy Deyes (EHH) 34:40 and Scott Hargreaves (BRRC) 34:53.

Surprisingly both team prizes were won by East Hull Harriers.  COH only fielded three female athletes and unfortunately, Karen Scott just couldn’t quite do enough to beat the top three EHH girls into second place.

Well, run everyone.

In the handicap event, we had an extra prize as there was no lady V55 runner in the race (if only I’d known, a bit of lippy and a skirt and I’d be £10 richer), quite useful as there was a tie for fifth place.

The following have earned themselves a bit of cash for their efforts:

  1.  Martin Walker (EHH)
  2. Claire Spear (HH)
  3. Drew Wilson (HH)
  4. Paul Cartwright (CoH)
  5. =  Kris Hopkins (EHH) & Patrick Walker (CoH)

The handicap league has had some changes in the top few positions but John Pawson has consolidated his lead with another 88 points from Tuesday’s race………..perhaps the handicapper will notice?

Here are the top five positions:

  • 400          John Pawson (CoH)
  • 345         Venika Moverley (EHH)
  • 345         Oliver Burnett (EHH)
  • 321          Alan Smith (EHH)
  • 320         Kirsty Wilson (EHH)

Remember, this is a six best from eight results competition so next time out, we will introduce the reduction of the second lowest score from the total.

This means that those of you with two very low scores have the opportunity to make ground on the leaders; good luck all.

So that’s me done for this week, see you next time at the Skirlaugh eight miler……

Cheers

Mike

Summer League Sproatley Seven Miles (Corrected)

Well what an evening that was…..pretty wet for nearly everyone…..except yours truly, who claimed he needed to add the entries on the night onto the spread sheet and spent his time quaffing ale and entertaining a certain young Miss Jacketts……..who has the same expensive tastes as her mum……..

We welcomed running buddies from afar this week, Jenny, Judy, Helena, Colin, David and Richard all made the trip from Baddesley Ensor (near Birmingham) in North Warwickshire.  That’s some commitment to running to make a 260 mile round trip up to six hours travelling just for a seven mile race in good old East Yorkshire.  If there were prizes for distance travelled, you guys would have walked it…..see what I did there?  Anyways I hope you all enjoyed the race and maybe we’ll see you again sometime?

Now as for the rest of you, I hope you all enjoyed the race too, despite the lousy conditions.

Mike Hargreaves (EHH) continued his clean sweep coming home in 37:46 over a minute and a half ahead of  Gregan Clarkson (KUHAC) and Andy Deyes (EHH) a further 17 seconds behind.

In the ladies event it was an East Hull Harriers clean sweep with Kirsty Wilson (48:48) followed in by Katie Seddon (49:43) and Carole Fee (50:15)

Both team prizes going to the East Hull massive.

In the evening’s handicap event the conditions obviously told as there were only 15 athletes equalling or better their respective handicap times, great running.  First three were: John Pawson (CoH); Anthony Whitely (Unatt.); Jackie Kirman (HH).

In the handicap league, this week sees the introduction of the removal of the first of the two low scores; the second will appear after the next two races.  Remember, the league is best six from eight results!

This brings in some changes at the top: leaders are now:

  • 1st John Pawson (CoH) 323 points
  • 2nd Simon Adcock (KuHAC) 292 points
  • 3rd  Alan Smith 291 points
  • 4th Demi Johnson 266 points
  • 5th Oliver Burnett 264 points (all EHH)

All still to play for!

So, that’s all from me folks, till next time,

Mike
