The summer months have so far been put to good use by various club members by cycling to events; this has been recently heralded as a “new phenomenon” by Mike Murray in his report for the Withernsea 5 mile. I’m sure one or two of our members may be inclined to ask what’s so new about that ? John Baker in particular has been cycling to events for years and indeed cycled to the Withernsea race although not with our group. But I think Mike may be referring to the dubious amount of after race “refreshment” or beerdration as I like to call it, that being car free (and care free) allows us to consume.
So the Walkington 10k came round again as is tradition the race is held on a Friday night, for me this is one of my favourite races in the calendar & I always look forward to it, also this was my first ever race back in 2012 so it holds a special place in my heart. Beverley AC do a cracking job with this race, it’s always well supported, plenty of marshals on route helping out & a cracking t-shirt at the end.
What better way to get over a marathon the previous weekend than arguably the hilliest local 10k.
Walkington 10k is one of the most established local races and therefore is always well represented by the club. This year was no different with 30 Harriers toeing the start line. For me it was a perfect Summer evening, no rain and in the low 20s.
